Schengen calculator and tax residency tracker Know where you stand, in every country.

Ternslog logs which country you are in each day and shows how many days you have left before a visa limit or a tax threshold. It is a Schengen calculator that runs on its own. Your locations never leave your phone.

How it works

Three things happen on their own

  1. Your phone notices big moves.

Ternslog listens for the low-power signals iPhone sends when you move a long way, the same ones that cost almost no battery. No GPS runs in the background.

  2. Positions become a country.

On the phone, a position is matched against country borders and turned into a country name. The position is kept in your log as evidence and never sent anywhere.

  3. Every day gets counted.

Each rule counts the way its law says. Schengen counts the day you arrive and the day you leave. The UK counts where you were at midnight. The US counts any part of a day. Ternslog keeps all three facts for every day, so each limit is right.

Ternslog day detail: how one day in Lisbon counts for Schengen 90 in 180, the UK tax year midnights and the US presence test, with four location signals as evidence

Who it is for

Who keeps a Ternslog

Schengen 90/180

A British passport with a flat in Spain.

Ninety days in any 180 across the whole Schengen area, with the exit day you must leave by and the earliest day you can come back for two weeks.

Tax residency

A nomad protecting a tax base.

Under 183 days anywhere, with a report that shows the days, the sources and the gaps when someone asks.

UK residence test

A non-resident who visits the UK often.

Midnights, not days, counted against the statutory residence test bands that decide whether you are UK resident for tax purposes.

At sea

A sailor.

Days at sea are their own zone. No other tracker has one.

Limits

Schengen and tax rules, as the law writes them

The Schengen 90 day rule.

90 days in any 180. The 180 dates ending today, arrival and departure both count, 29 states counted as one zone, your residence country excluded if you hold a permit.

UK statutory residence test.

Midnights in the tax year, 6 April to 5 April, present at midnight, transit days excluded, the deeming rule when it applies.

US substantial presence test.

This year plus a third of last year plus a sixth of the year before, with the 31-day floor.

Per-entry caps.

  • US visa waiver 90
  • UK visitor 180
  • Japan 90
  • Thailand 30
  • Mexico 180
  • Indonesia 30
  • Vietnam 45

Your own.

Any country, any window, any limit.

Every rule in the app names its source and the date we last checked it.

Your history

Years of travel history in minutes

Scan your photos. Every photo with a location becomes a day in a country. Pick a file from Google Maps Timeline, from another app, or from a spreadsheet. Or paint the months by hand: pick a country, drag across the weeks. Nothing is saved until you have checked it, and every import can be removed whole.

Privacy

Your places stay on your phone

Where you have been is yours. Positions, visits, documents and imports live in the app folder on your phone and travel only inside your own iCloud backup. There is no account. Analytics and telemetry are first party, used to improve features and fix bugs, and carry no personal information and no precise location.

FAQ

Questions

Does Ternslog track me with GPS all the time?

No. It listens for the low-power signals iPhone sends when you move a long way, about 500 metres or more, and for the arrival and departure events iPhone already records. Battery use is designed to be small. You can also switch to manual entry only.

How does the Schengen 90 in 180 rule count?

Take the 180 dates ending today, including today. Count every day you were in any Schengen state, with the day you arrived and the day you left both counting. If that number is 90 or under, you are inside the rule. Ternslog shows the window as a bar so you can see which visits count.

Does the day I arrive count as a day?

For Schengen, yes, and so does the day you leave. For the UK Statutory Residence Test only the days you are present at midnight count. For the US presence test any part of a day counts. Ternslog keeps all three facts for every day.

What happens if my phone is off or I forget to open the app?

After about 30 hours without a signal Ternslog asks whether you are still where it last saw you. Days with no signal are marked as gaps, never guessed. You can confirm or correct them in one tap.

Can I bring in my past travel?

Yes. Scan your photo library, import a Google Maps Timeline file, a CSV from another app or a spreadsheet, or paint the months by hand. Everything shows up as a list you check before it is saved.

Where is my data stored?

In the app folder on your phone, covered by your normal iCloud backup. Nothing is uploaded to us. Reports and archives are files you own.

Is this legal advice?

No. Ternslog applies published rules and names its sources. For a decision that matters, show the report to an adviser.

What does Pro add?

Automatic capture, every limit, PDF reports with evidence, photo backfill, the trip planner and widgets. Pay once or yearly through the App Store; the price shows there. The free app keeps all your history and runs one limit.

Does it work for US states or cities?

Not in the first version. Countries and the at-sea zone only. US states are on the list.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. iPhone first, Android is planned.

Free to start.
